According to wikipedia, "The Seven Rays" are a concept that has appeared in several religions and esoteric philosophies in both Western culture and in India since at least the sixth century BCE. They are also known as "chohans" or angels from heaven. This artwork lists them as they were presented in the song "The Seven Rays" by the progressive rock group Utopia, which was written by bassist John Siegler and Utopia's leader Todd Rundgren. Rundgren explained (in the live recording accessible here) that this song is not just about the Seven Rays themselves, but about the larger idea that cooperation between different people with different strengths (i.e. the rays) is essential to achieving a better world. The metaphor itself hinges on the optical phenomenon that the seven colors of light combine to create white light.
